AEO, SEO and GEO: what is behind them?
Three terms, one practical question: how do people find reliable information about your business? Understanding the differences helps you choose the right measures.

What do the terms mean?
SEO means search engine optimization and addresses discoverability in search. AEO, answer engine optimization, emphasises the use of information in direct answers. GEO, generative engine optimization, describes work aimed at generative search and answer systems. AEO and GEO are not consistently distinguished across the industry. The label alone does not tell you which action is useful.

One question, several routes to an answer.
A business wants to connect its website with AI applications. Traditional search may surface a service page; a generated answer may combine several sources. Both need clear statements: what is offered, who it suits, what is required and who takes responsibility?

Our example: a story with accessible expertise.
LEVERLY HILLS presents its services through an interactive story. Service pages and expert articles are also directly accessible at individual URLs and delivered from the server. The story creates an experience; the expert pages provide detailed answers and clear sources. This is an implementation choice, not evidence of an achieved ranking.

What to check first.
Start with customer questions and the expertise you can actually contribute. Check whether the corresponding page is accessible without interaction and whether its search preview describes it accurately. Refine markup once those basics work.
- Give each search intent a clear destination
- Explain terms with concrete examples
- Check internal links, languages and sources
- Compare relevant queries and enquiries over time

There is no shortcut.
Google continues to describe the foundations of its generative search features as SEO. An llms.txt file or an MCP endpoint is not a ticket into AI answers. Structured data must match the visible page. Even a well-built page may go uncited because systems choose their own sources and answers.

Common questions
Should I repeat keywords as often as possible?
No. Answer the question precisely and completely. Related language follows naturally from the subject. Repetition without additional value does not improve the answer.
How can I measure AEO?
Compare indexed pages, relevant queries, clicks and enquiries. Record AI source references with the date and exact question. Individual answers vary and do not replace observation over time. Our answer engine optimization page explains how we review progress in projects.
